Funded training

Funded NVQ information for employers

We are an accredited NVQ training centre and deliver around 500 NVQ level 2 awards a year at employers premises throughout North East England. The NVQ we deliver is in Plant Operations and covers such machines as forklift trucks of all types, i.e. counterbalance, reach truck, telehandler etc, 360º and 180º excavators, mobile and overhead gantry cranes, lorry loaders (hiabs), mobile elevated work platforms (cherry pickers & scissors lifts), dumper trucks.

We are able to offer funding (subject to availability) to employers to train their staff via way of NVQ training, assessment and observation mainly through our partnership with Tyne Metropolitan College, one of the largest providers of Further Education in the region. An NVQ is usually seen as a more creditable form of certification for someone seeking accreditation in a particular field, especially in the operation of plant and machinery, as it is carried out over a more prolonged period of time than a training course and is much more in depth.

Our NVQ procedure works as follows: If the candidate needs basic training then we will provide this first before going on to begin the NVQ following a suitable period of time, if the candidate has been previously trained then one of our assessors can go out immediately to meet him/her and agree a training and assessment plan and will then arrange to assess and observe them "on the job" usually over 2 or 3 visits lasting approx 1 to 2 hours each. During each visit we will build a portfolio covering all aspects of the job the candidate is doing, i.e. forklift truck operation, including the health and safety, risk assessment and general housekeeping aspects of the job. Once the assessor is satisfied the candidate is able to achieve a full NVQ award then we would have the portfolio internally verified for authenticity and soon after successful verification a full NVQ award certificate is presented. The whole process can take as little as 10 weeks from start to finish and will normally entail basic training (if required) and 2 or 3 assessments.

Funded training fees can vary depending on the size of the company receiving training and the previous qualifications of the trainees. Typically the fees currently range from the employer receiving up to 50% of the overall cost of training to being completely free of charge. In some instances employers can receive payment of wage compensation to cover the time trainees have to spend away from the workplace.
